Institute of Agriculture and Tourism of Croatia is a public non-profit scientific institute, founded by the Government of the Republic of Croatia, the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports. The Institute is today organized in five basic structure units: Board, Department of Food and Agriculture, Department of Economics and Agriculture Development, Department of Tourism, and Experimental Agricultural Estate.
The largest structure unit is the Department of Food and Agriculture that performs scientific research activities and professional work in the field of agriculture and food sciences. Research is mostly orientated to viticulture, virus detection and monitoring, genetic characterization of grapevine and olive varieties, olives and vegetables cultivation, wine making technologies, olive oil production and sensory evaluation of wine and olive oil.

The Institute has his own experimental vineyard and wine cellar where scientific and technological research is performed. The transfer of knowledge and technologies to agricultural business is one of the primary roles of the Institute.
